The Bull shark is commonly found worldwide in warm, shallow waters along coasts and in rivers. The Bull shark is the only shark that can thrive in both saltwater and freshwater and can travel far up rivers.

bull-mapIn South Africa, they inhabit the warm, near shore waters of Mozambique and KwaZulu-Natal; rarely entering Cape waters. They may be found in many large rivers and lakes far from the sea and estuaries such as St. Lucia. Port St. Johns forms the nursery grounds for the juveniles.

Throughout the year the Bull shark is encountered on PROTEA BANKS, making it one of the few places in the world where these sharks are seen on a regular basis. Being a solitary species, they are never encountered in large numbers on a reef dive.

Bull sharks are also regular visitors on our BAITED SHARK DIVE. This makes a BAITED SHARK DIVE on PROTEA BANKS unique, as it is the only baited dive in South Africa that has the Bull shark as a regular visitor.

PLEASE NOTE THAT SPECIFIC SHARK SPECIES CAN NEVER BE GUARANTEED ON A PARTICULAR DIVE!! This is what makes PROTEA BANKS so unique. Each and every day is just so different!
